Evening Headlines
Bloomberg:
  • Stocks Gain in Asia After U.S. Record; Bonds Drop. Stocks in Asia advanced on Tuesday after U.S. equities climbed to a record, propelled by optimism for a trade deal, encouraging earnings and expectations for another Federal Reserve interest-rate cut. Ten-year Japanese government-bond yields hit the highest in more than two months, following gains in Treasury yields overnight. Equity benchmarks rose in Japan and South Korea, with more modest gains in Australia. U.S. futures were flat after the S&P 500 Index took out its July record high, with President Donald Trump saying the U.S. is ahead of schedule to sign part of a China trade deal. Japan’s Topix index rose 0.7% as of 9:05 a.m. in Tokyo. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.2%. South Korea’s Kospi index added 0.5%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index contracts rose 0.6% earlier. S&P 500 futures were flat. The S&P 500 Index advanced 0.6%.

BOTTOM LINE: Asian indices are higher, boosted by technology and industrial shares in the region. I expect US stocks to open mixed and to rally into the afternoon, finishing modestly higher. The Portfolio is 100% net long heading into the day.
