Sam Altman has discussed the idea with Trump administration officials, including a direct pitch to Trump in early 2025. The discussions have focused on companies voluntarily ceding shares to the government, not selling them. Returns could be used for public purposes, including a potential dividend to American households. Anthropic is reportedly not in talks with the administration on providing equity.
