• U.S. wants allies to jump in and help secure the Strait of Hormuz… but this isn’t some simple escort mission. The strait is only 21 miles wide, and Iran controls the north coast… so any ship out there is basically moving right under Iranian guns the whole time. And this isn’t some random chokepoint either… we’re talking about ~20M barrels of oil moving through daily, nearly 20% of global supply, most of it heading to Asia, with China alone depending on it for about a third of its oil. So when people say “just send more ships”… that doesn’t really solve anything, it just gives Iran more targets and more leverage to play with. That’s the catch here… security patrols don’t remove the threat, they multiply the pressure points.
• Iran just proved its missiles can reach far beyond the Middle East. Iran fired two intermediate-range ballistic missiles at Diego Garcia, a joint U.S.-UK military base sitting 4,000 kilometers away in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Neither hit the base, but the message landed harder than any warhead could. Tehran has always publicly claimed its missile range tops out at 2,000 km.
